The commit in https://github.com/qos-ch/logback/commit/03e26684d43066d53dbf926e060a73d43bee77fd breaks compatibility with applications that programmatically configure Logback, such as http://dropwizard.io - in the spirit of http://semver.org/ it should be considered a 2.x release. The correct solution would have been deprecating the old call but ensuring it still works.

At this point in time we are forces to hold Logback's version on 1.1.7 in all our projects that use Dropwizard.
